– Matthew 11:28-30
Most of the time I would associate this passage with Jesus being one who can sustain me in my struggles. However, Fr. Brian gave an interesting take on why Jesus made this statement - it was because of the Pharisees who implemented many rules and regulations before the Jews could...

Cavetime.
Cavetime: Time alone, in solitude.
Notice it’s solitude and not in loneliness. Many people equate being alone as a sign that you’re lonely. But I enjoy being alone - it allows you to muse, to think, to savour, to enjoy, to be fully present without distractions. For me this is done by going out alone, maybe to go for mass, to shop, to run errands. But there’s a paradox,...

Embracing Difference
Decided to stop procrastinating and do this post when I’m relatively free this Friday morning, lol.
Anyway, Mel asked all of us a question when we were having our final sharing in Madrid, “What are the fruits of your experience here in MAGIS and WYD?”. I’ll share my first one - that of learning how to embrace difference.
For those who know me (well), you should know that...

back in black
Hai guys, it’s been long time since I’ve updated this place! Obviously I have been away for a loooong while (3 weeks in Spain for MAGiS and World Youth Day) and coming back to school after term has started has left me swamped with many things to do, so blogging has taken a backseat. I know I owe many of you a complete recount and reflections of my experience in MAGiS (I have no idea...

Constantine.
I sometimes wonder if angels are actually jealous, or a little envious of us. Them existing as spiritual beings without bodies, while we (humans) on the other hand are incarnate spiritual beings; body and soul entwined till death.
We humans view our bodies as a limitations to the greatness we can achieve; it can be diseased, sickened, cut, wounded, maimed, and ultimately is a stumbling block in...

Hallo everbuddy, long time no see! Just wanted to share something I found interesting while reading the bible. Many times we use the phrase “blind faith” to describe that leap of faith we need to acknowledge Jesus as our Christ.. but on reflection I guess that’s not an accurate term to use.
Galatians 5:6 says that “… The only thing that counts is faith expressing...

Hope, what is hope?
Have you ever asked yourself if the phrase “false hope” makes sense?
I asked myself that question today and realised that “false hope” is an oxymoron. Dictionary.com defines hope as “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best”. How can hope be false when it is merely a feeling? False hope is hope that is unrealised...
LOGBLOG ROCKS.
Sorry guys for the serious spam on this tumblr, but this has to be said!
Been reading our old entries on the LOG blog (leavenofgod.blogspot.com - shameless plug! YAY.) and really, it gives me so much joy to see how we were so passionate and in love with God when we were younger. I guess after growing up we do lose some of that innocence, that raw unbridled passion, that unshaking sense of...
To do list after moots.
In approximately 12 hours time I’ll be done with my moots, and then the party starts!
To do list:
1. Buy a freaking cajon! (and learn how to play it properly) I would love to learn drums but I don’t have the time nor capacity so this is the alternative. AND I can actually jam along in PnW and I really think percussions make a lot of difference.
2. Study. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yea with...

Stand up and be counted.
Guys, take a look at this article http://protectthepope.com/?p=2785. It’s a report about how:
‘[On March 10] a mob of 70 young people, the majority female, entered the chapel, gathered around the altar, and shouted blasphemies. Some of the young women took their clothes off, while others made lesbian manifestations.’
This happened at a university chapel in Spain. Sigh, I am sickened and...

Random (oh you mean they weren't before?)...
Hello! This is in a bad need of an update. Just a few random thoughts off the top of my head:
The mystery of the Eucharist
This struck me in mass today (at IHM, pretty cool to visit other parishes for weekday mass, we’re doing that as part of a Mass Movement [pun intended] initiated by James, check the event out on FB!). It’s a funny thought really, have you ever thought what’s...
Mark 11:15-17
They came to Jerusalem, and on entering the temple area he began to drive out those selling and buying there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. He did not permit anyone to carry anything through the temple area. Then he taught them saying, “Is it not written:
My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples? But you have...

Overused passage, but the reality and truth of it really hit me today. I’m stumbling and falling, and I need to place all my hope in the Lord for His strength.

Only Through Heaven's Eyes
A single thread in a tapestry Through its color brightly shine Can never see its purpose In the pattern of the grand design And the stone that sits on the very top Of the mountain’s mighty face Does it think it’s more important Than the stones that form the base? So how can you see what your life is worth Or where your value lies? You can never see through the eyes of man You must look...
Who's coming again?
Santa Claus is coming to town… is he really? While all of us have stopped believing in this magical jolly man who supposedly comes down the chimney (Singapore how? :/) to grant us our heart’s desires through pretty wrapped presents brought on his sleigh pulled by reindeers, have we started to believe in who really comes on Christmas day, Jesus Christ who grants us even more than our...

– Luke 1:26-38
Ever wondered why God doesn’t send an angel to tell us what He wants us to do? It seems pretty unfair; afterall, Mary had angel Gabriel to lay out God’s plan for her life - all she had to do was to say yes.
I asked myself the same question today at mass when the gospel was...

Table of Plenty
If you are a Catholic ask yourself this question, what do you look at during mass? No, I’m not talking about the pretty girl two pews in front (or beside you if you’re lucky. hahahaha); but rather what’s your point of focus? For me it would be either the priest (for obvious reasons) or the large crucifix hanging behind the priest at SFX. Just dawned onto me today during mass that...
The lifelong struggle - Being versus Doing.
Hey guys, do take the time to read this reflection by Fr. William Goh on this Tuesday’s Gospel (based on the story of Mary and Martha), it’s something very basic but it struck a chord within me in the midst of all the rush and stress of uni:
We are by nature apostles, rather than contemplatives. We like to ‘do’, rather than to simply ‘be’. Why? Because ‘doing’ makes us feel that we...

Thy Will Be Done.
Today I was reminded that there is a thin line between what I want God’s Will to be and what is His actual will for me. The struggle remains - to hear His voice over my own, to seek His will over my own, to seek His pleasure over my own.

To quote Estelle, ellipses are used when a person is lingering in his thoughts. Haha.
Handmade Crosses.
“And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple”
- Luke 14:27
The cost of discipleship - Each of us has our own cross to carry. We are not called just to follow Jesus, but first to pick up our cross, AND THEN to follow Him. The cost of discipleship is lifelong, and is definitely more than what most people are willing to pay.
The beautiful thing is that...

Random Musing No.1
The Hospital.
It is bleak, dreary, depressing. Pale muted colours, hurried movement, the smell of sanitiser. Faces which show no emotion nor read any expression. Hopelessness hangs thick in the air. Patients in their beds with empty chairs beside them. Patients eating alone, possbily contemplating when they will be wheeled out of this prison, or when they will be wheeled into the operating room.

Matthew 13:44-46
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
So what happens if the treasure is found and dug...
