When was the last time you fell in love with Jesus?
No, I’m not talking about being able to say “I love you, Jesus”.
Neither am I talking about forcing ourselves to do things which show that we love Him.
Nor is it that mental decision you make to “love Him” despite all that you’re feeling.
I’m talking about the falling heads over heels in love with Jesus. You know the feeling when you like a girl (or a guy, if you’re a girl :/) and you want to spend every minute of your time with her (or him)? When you can’t seem to get that person out of your head and you are thinking of her/him the whole day? Yes I am talking aboutthat kind of love… romantic love!
Talking to Greg tonight really made me relive my School of Witness (SOW) memories, and it brought me back to the time where I could say with conviction that I was truly, madly, deeply in love with Jesus. Remembering how much I wanted to be in the adoration room just to savour every minute with Him, how much I wanted to surrender my life to Him so that His will could be done, and that joy and peace I felt just allowing myself to bask in His love. (To all SOWers reading this I know you guys know EXACTLY what I mean - our happy place!)
And I guess that is what we as Christians are called to do. Amidst all the distractions, we only have one call - to fall IN love with Jesus. Not just to love Him, or to allow ourselves to be loved… but to fall in love with Him. You know in Love and Responsibility (a book written by the late Pope John Paul II) we learn that love is not merely an emotion, but involves a decision. But in the same way love cannot be merely a decision devoid of emotions (Jude’s analogy - imagine telling your wife/husband that you have no feelings for them but just because you are married you choose to “love” them… you’ll just get slapped :p).
So yes, I think God is calling me to rediscover that feeling of falling in love with Him, to have that passionate heart of love for Him. Thank you SOWers 2011 for reminding me of what truly matters… and may God grant you a life changing conversion experience, just as He did for me (:
Praise God!
P.S. I chose this picture because I think it depicts what falling in love feels like, the feeling of wanting to give yourself fully and wholly to the other. My prayer is that each of us will be able to lift up our hearts to the Lord, and allow ourselves to be consumed by the fire of His love (:
