Today I experienced what it is truly like to be part of the Church. I’m not refering to the physical building in which we celebrate mass, but rather to the communion of believers while celebrating the eucharist.
It’s simple really, there is no need for extravagant structures, beautiful stained glass, a world class choir or an extremely annointed priest. All you need is pure, unadulterated LOVE for Christ, and that was exactly what I saw around me… in the voices of the people as they sang the songs and recited the prayers, in their gestures as they participated in the liturgy and most of all on their faces - the smiles of PURE JOY as they embraced each other during the sign of peace.
It’s unexplainable, but just being there was the highlight of my day, just being able to worship and receive Jesus together with my brothers and sisters who were consumed by His love. Amazing stuff, to say the least.
So here’s some food for thought. The next time we complain that church is boring, dry or stagnant, think about who makes up the Church. And if we don’t find ourselves being filled with joy at the eucharistic feast which is the summit of our faith, we only have ourselves to blame!
Oh yes and if you’re wondering where I was attending mass at, it was with the SOWers at CAYC. See, you don’t even need a physical church for mass to be celebrated - and that’s the beauty of it.
Have a blessed week people, and let’s keep SOW 2011 in our prayers!
