The mystery of the Eucharist. What does this mystery refer to exactly?
Besides it referring to the mystery of the changing of the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus, I think it refers to the mystery that we ourselves experience as we receive His body and blood.
I think many times we approach the Eucharist with a fixed idea of what God can give us as we receive Him into our bodies, may it be a specific grace to carry a certain cross or a blessing for a certain situation. However, we forget that our God is a LIMITLESS God, and we cannot possibly try to constrain what He has in store for us. I guess what we should be asking God for is the faith and understanding that the blessings and graces he pours out at the Eucharistic feast are really endless and overwhelming, and are much more than what we require or can possibly fathom.
These reflections of mine come from the feeling of awe and wonder I experienced as I lined up to receive communion today, and the realisation of how short sighted I have been before to the power of the Eucharist. It is this transforming and redemptive power that is in work in us each time we receive our Lord Jesus Christ in His entirety! I don’t know how to exactly describe what I felt, but it was just that moment where your mind is blown by the GREATNESS of what you are about to partake in - the full and total communion between your being and your God, through something so simple yet mystical.
And so we continue to be amazed by our God of Wonders (:
