Random (oh you mean they weren’t before?) ramblings.

Hello! This is in a bad need of an update. Just a few random thoughts off the top of my head:

The mystery of the Eucharist

This struck me in mass today (at IHM, pretty cool to visit other parishes for weekday mass, we’re doing that as part of a Mass Movement [pun intended] initiated by James, check the event out on FB!). It’s a funny thought really, have you ever thought what’s going on the priest’s mind as he consecrates the bread and wine?

Mine goes along the lines of “wa seh, eh I dunno how this wafer and wine gonna change to Jesus’ body and blood ah, but aiyah I just trust and have faith that it will, and let the Holy Spirit whack can already”. I apologise for the singlish, but I think it’s the only way that can encapsulate the absurdity(!!!) of the whole thing. And yes, I admit, it is ABSURSD beyond comprehension, and I half imagine the priest having an incredulous look as he performs the consecration.

But that’s precisely why we call it the Mystery of the Eucharist isn’t it? People can laugh, people can think we’re nuts (or worse, cannibals. haha.), people can doubt, but the beauty is that as long as we believe that Jesus’ body and blood is made truly present in the Eucharist, it will be there, and no one can take that away from us.

And as the priest consecrated the bread and wine today a slight smile crept across my face, with the realisation that although both the priest and I struggled with the absurdity of the entire process, it was ultimately the same faith (that has endured for the past 2000 odd years) we clung on to that allowed us to transcend this incomprehension, both from his place on the altar and mine in the pews.

Lent

Weirdly, I like Lent. I know, I know, it’s a sombre time of penance but there’s a certain joy in the whole process. It’s pretty zen to be free (for certain times at least) of stupid things like facebook, but of course it’s more than that. Personally I like it because it’s a good reminder for me to take stock of what is really important in my life, and to look at where I am headed in my relationship with Him. Stations of the cross is beautiful too! Okay I’m rambling… but before I go off let’s pause for a moment to pray for and remember, those in Japan who are suffering from the loss of lives, homes, security, comfort, faith and hope. May God pour out His mercy on all those affected, and bring peace back to the ravaged nation.

For those Catholics out there - let’s remember Japan through our Lenten sacrifices/penances. Fasting, praying the rosary, offering up masses, let’s do all we can in these trying times because only He is enough.
