Hope, what is hope?

Have you ever asked yourself if the phrase “false hope” makes sense?

I asked myself that question today and realised that “false hope” is an oxymoron. Dictionary.com defines hope as “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best”. How can hope be false when it is merely a feeling? False hope is hope that is unrealised (and that is only gleaned in retrospect), and hope that is unrealised is not hope anymore, it has mutated to form disappointment.

The word hope is so - filled with hope. Haha. You get the idea, it is a word that conjures up feelings and images of positivty and unwavering faith, that I can’t bear to tarnish the hope of “hope” by putting the word “false” beside it.

Okay, don’t know if I’m making sense but these are some random thoughts from my head as we enter the Easter Triduum today. And it is with great hope (and not false hope :p although the atheists will disagree), that we await His resurrection and triumphant return on Easter Sunday!
